Adjacent to an industrial site, design and development of Dutro Woods is part of an effort to clean up post-industrial sites in Muncie.  Currently in conceptual stage of the design process, this project would revitalize a vacant brownfield site into a commemorative natural management area.

A great catalyst of the project was to create or capture elements of memory through natural landscape elements, while including basic site amenities like parking.

Though degraded by pollution and neglect and marred by an expanse of asphalt, nature struggles to reclaim the site. Using present and historical features the design highlights the strength of natural habitats with an overlay of visual connectivity to create geospatial organizational system of paths and destinations.  Interpretative signage provides passive educational opportunities.  The design of Dutro woods is expected to continue in the near future.
