PROJECT BACKGROUND
Flatland Resources’ work with Taylor University advances campus connectivity through the planning and phased development of a trail system linking the eastern, athletics-oriented portion of campus with the southern residential areas. Routing around Taylor’s recreational lake, this addition fulfills a key objective of the University’s 2023 Campus Master Plan by expanding and strengthening the overall pedestrian network.
Following the University’s receipt of funding from the Lilly Endowment, efforts began to advance construction of the proposed trail. Flatland first completed a feasibility study to evaluate alignment, constructability, and long-term phasing of the loop trail. Building on this work, the University continued to engage Flatland for additional planning and design support, reflecting confidence in the established working relationship.
Subsequent efforts included refining pedestrian infrastructure in key areas of campus and providing environmental coordination where needed, ensuring that future improvements aligned with both campus goals and site conditions. This continued collaboration positioned the University to move forward with implementation in a strategic and phased manner.
The resulting 0.69-mile loop trail serves as the foundation of this effort, creating a continuous pedestrian connection that enhances accessibility, supports recreation, and reinforces a cohesive campus experience.
